Earth & Sage prides itself on offering medical grade treatments and procedures to their clients. This includes therapeutic bodywork options that surpass the traditional spa-massage experience.

Therapeutic bodywork at Earth & Sage is performed by muscular therapists who specialize in medical populations. Those suffering from chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, chronic pain syndromes and patients recovering from serious injuries will find refuge and relief at the hands of Earth & Sage’s exceptionally trained therapists. We also offer treatment options designed for serious athletes looking to optimize their sports performance in the areas of recovery, flexibility and pre-game muscular treatments.

A brief description of massage terms:

Deep Tissue: This involves working deeply into muscles and connective tissue with slow strokes and to encourage release of tightness and spasm. Strokes used are similar to regular massage but involve more pressure to realign musculature and relieve chronic areas of pain and tension.

Neuromuscular Therapy: The American Academy of Pain Management endorses the use of this therapy for low back pain. Neuromuscular therapy (also known as Trigger Point Myotherapy) is intense, and focuses on specific areas of spasm or knots with application of steady, deep pressure over a period of up to 30 seconds. Areas of muscular spasm have diminished blood flow and a build-up of lactic acid which can cause pain and soreness. Releasing the spasm will help increase blood flow to the area and promote healing in the muscle fibers. It is not uncommon for clients to be uncomfortable or feel ‘good pain’ during this therapy. Some soreness can be expected after the treatment and clients are encouraged to take a warm Epson salts bath afterwards and to stay well-hydrated.

Swedish Massage: this is the form of massage that most clients are familiar with. Smooth, gliding strokes are used, in conjunction with kneading, mild stretching and friction. For those who have never experienced a massage or who want gentle relaxation, this is a good place to start.

Sports Massage: Pre-game, various techniques are used to stimulate blood flow and to warm and energize muscle groups. Post-game, we focus on the recovery process by allowing muscles to relax, reducing spasms and metabolic waste build-up. Athletes should incorporate massage into their training and maintenance programs to prevent injuries, increase flexibility and attain optimal performance in their sports. We work with a range of professional and amateur athletes such as dancers, gymnasts, runners, bikers, martial artists, sports players (soccer, baseball, tennis, golf, etc), rock climbers and skiers.
